Your mum taught you good manners and good manners also apply in the fitness gym. There are do’s and don’ts and certain exercise protocol expected of you – are you violating any of them?

How to Exercise the Right Way

Don’t ‘jump around’

Take it ‘slower’ on the cardio equipment and treadmills. Just because you’re hitting the machines faster and harder doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to burn more calories that way. In fact, you could be causing damage to joints. Work at a decent pace, but don’t work out as if your life depends on it.

Share and share alike

Be kind to your fellow gymgoers. Don’t hog the machinery – set your usage time at a maximum of 30 minutes, especially at peak times of the day. Also, if you’re the one waiting to use the equipment, don’t stand idly by whilst the other person finishes. Give them time to warm down and find another activity to work on.

Work out smarter

If these are your first few times in a gym, don’t pretend to know what you’re doing. You can risk injury to yourself or earn a badge of embarras
