Morning, Noon or Night: When is the Best Time to Work Out?

By November 4, 2014 No Comments

No matter if you burn the midnight oil or are an early riser, you can tailor your fitness routine to fit your needs.

As with anything else in life, timing is everything, and that applies, too, to the time of day you choose to work out. Of course, your lifestyle dictates when it’s the best time to get your gear on. Our fitness trainers at Warwick Women’s Workout in Perth have some suggestions to help you make the most of your day.

When is the Best Time to Work Out

Make exercise a priority – when you can

Everyone has so much going on in their lives these days – work, schooling, extracurricular activities, child care and family time – that exercising sometimes gets short shrift. It’s important that you designate time in your busy life to working out, even if only a few days per week. Try to determine which days those are, and stick with them as best you can. You can enter your workout days and times into the calendar on your phone – so you see them there, and that makes it harder to ignore.

Work out at your optimum ‘feel good’ times

If you’re the early bird who catches the worm and feel at your best in the mornings, then you may want to squeeze in your exercise then, too. The same applies if you hit your stride in the afternoons. Even if you head to the gym after work, if this puts you at your peak during the day, then by all means work out then.

But try not to exercise at night

Unless it’s your only option, avoid working out in the evenings and at night. Your sleep can be affected greatly because your melatonin – the chemical in your body that regulates your sleep cycle – will be thrown off balance. For optimum recovery after a workout, your body requires rest. If your sleep cycle is interrupted, the recovery time will be much less effective.
