If you’re feeling a bit more jiggly lately, don’t despair. There are ways to banish the belly!
Losing the battle of the bulge is one that can be frustrating – especially if you don’t know where to begin or just how to tackle it. The experts from our women fitness gym in Perth are here to explain what works and what doesn’t.
Exercise in quality, not quantity
You can do a thousand crunches but if you have a layer of cookie dough surrounding your abs, you’re never going to see definition. Cardio is your best friend in this case; and combined with strength training, will help clear the area bit by bit.
Eating less won’t haul away the heft
Diets don’t work, but sensible eating plans do. The best thing you can do is consume 5 or 6 small meals a day, which helps your metabolism stay revving – and, eventually, helps lead to weight loss. Don’t forget to flush your system with plenty of fresh cold water, too.
Long distance running also won’t help fight fat
One might think that a long distance event such as marathon training would be a natural to help shed accumulated fat. But a gain in cortisol from such training actually assists with fat gain. A better solution? Time your runs to be no longer than 20 minutes per session.
Learn the difference between the good and bad kinds of fat
It’s often said that you are what you eat, but this only applies once in a while. It doesn’t always apply to fatty foods contributing to a larger waistline – some of the time. There are good and bad fats, and knowing the difference is wise. A bag of chips for dinner? Not so good. Avocado slices on a salad or wheat toast? Much, much better.
